Client Centred Services
The Surrey Employment Resource Centre – Newton is a private incorporated company that has been offering friendly client centred Employment Services in Surrey for 14 years. We contract with the Provincial Government of British Columbia through the Ministry of Housing and Social Development Labour Market Services British Columbia . We offer FREE Employment Assistance Services to unemployed and under employed Canadians and Permanent Residents eligible to work in Canada.

A Variety Employment Assistance Services
We offer a wide variety of FREE employment service options to ‘fit' the needs of each individual client. We provide Canadians and Landed Immigrants with resources that will assist in obtaining employment. The following services are available to support and assist any unemployed persons.

Referrals to Employment Services
Referrals to Employment Assistance Services and Programs are available to all clients after they attend our information session and meet with one of our Employment Counsellors/Case Managers . Our information sessions are hosted four times per week. If you are unable to attend at the time posted please call our office for more information.

Interpretation Options
Employment Assistance Services are available to clients who may require the support of language translation or sign language translation free charge. Please contact our offices to set up an appointment.

Questions and Answers
I just want to go to a job club and only need a referral from you. Do I have to go to the information session?
Yes, most of our clients have attended our one hour information session. There is a variety of programs and other services options to assist you. After attending the information session meeting with an Employment Counsellor/Case Manager; together you will discuss which employment program or steps will best meet your needs.
I do not want to go back to my old job after my maternity claim is finished. Can I get trained in a something different?
Maybe, each client's situation is personal and unique. Clients on an E.I. Maternity claim are also unique. You are requested to attend the information session and meet with an Employment Counsellor/Case Manager to determine what steps, or programs and services you are eligible to attend. Please, do not pay for any training until you meet with an Employment Counsellor/Case Manager. Any funds you pay prior to meeting with an Employment Counsellor/Case Manager can not be reimbursed.
I hate my previous job, I don't want that type of job any more, and I want a career change. Can you help me?
Yes, we can help you. The Surrey Employment Resource Centre – Newton is the best place for you to start. We recommend that you meet with an Employment Counsellor/Case Manager to discuss your request.
I do not need any other help, just a job; can you find it for me?
Yes we can help you by empowering you with the job search skills needed to find employment. We are not an employment agency. Our office receives daily job posting which are posted on our job board in the resource area. Employment Counsellors/Case Managers can help determine which occupation best suits your interest and abilities or by visiting our resource room/computer lab, you will find a variety of resources that will assist you.
My school starts in two weeks; I want the government to pay for it. Can you help me get funding?
Yes, we are the office that assists people to make an application for funding. Funded training is called Skill Development Employment Benefits or SDEB. SDEB applications take time and involve several steps. Each client's individual situation and training request is different. Please call our office or come to one of our information sessions to meet with an Employment Counsellors/Case Managers who can answer your question in detail and provide you with an application for SDEB.
Where can I find the list of approved training programs I can take?
There is no longer a ‘list' of approved training. You will need to meet with an Employment Counsellor/Case Manager for information on the training application process and which training programs and schools might best suit your needs. The diversity of training options available is very great and depends on a variety of things, especially the current labour market. Please contact the office for more information
I don't like my job.  Can I quit the job and get training?
We do not recommend anyone quits their job. Please contact our office for more information about looking for a different job while you are presently working or contact your local Human Resources Skill Development Office.
Can your office type a resume for me; I have a job offer waiting for me?
Yes we have the ability to assist you in obtaining a resume. Please call our office for more information.
I hurt myself at my job and my doctor said I need to change my career, what do I do?
You may require re-training to enter another career. Please visit or call our office to discuss how the Surrey Employment Resource Centre – Newton can be of assistance to you. Our services can assist you with the all the steps necessary to change careers for medical purposes.
